University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene:

Master of Science in Advanced Public Health Nursing:
This is a degree program that can be taken online and teaches students about nursing from a community and public health perspective. The program begins with students declaring individual areas of interest. Students then engage in a number of core nursing and public health education courses. Students learn about practical application of nursing and public health methods and policies in multicultural environments. They also learn about caring for certain populations and working within particular communities. Students participate in a number of clinical hours and also work closely with faculty to complete independent projects and papers. Although a majority of this program is completed online, students may be asked to appear on campus for training, interviews, and professional meetings. Students who complete this program are qualified to act as nurses in a number of community and public health contexts. Students who successfully complete this program may also apply to PhD degree Programs.
PhD in Nursing - Public Health Concentration:
This is an advanced graduate degree program that can be taken online. The program is designed for students who have academic and professional backgrounds in nursing and public health and would like to perform unique and innovative research to complete independent projects that will benefit the public health industry. Students enter the program already having individual areas of expertise. Students may take courses in a number of disciplines in and outside of the nursing field. Students work closely with faculty advisors to complete independent research projects and to also complete their PhD dissertations. All dissertations are presented and defended before an academic panel. Students who complete this program are qualified to continue their research and to teach at the university and college level. Student who complete this program are also eligible to serve as administrators in universities. Graduates of the PhD program may also occupy any number of diverse high-level government agency positions. They work all around the world and influence and write public health policy. Students are also qualified to act as nursing staff leaders, trainers, and high-level administrators.
