This department is known as the best criminal justice department in the state of Idaho. The secret to their success is their dedicated faculty and staff and their emphasis on the practical application of theories and concepts that are learned in the classroom. The department offers a number of diverse courses for undergraduate and graduate students who are looking to pursue degrees full-time. The school also offers special programs for working professionals who cannot take full-time degrees because of jobs and family obligations. Students work closely with faculty to become prepared for criminal justice careers in a number of different industries.

Master of Science in Criminal Justice:

This program begins with a core education in the basics of criminal justice. Students learn about correctional facilities, the law, public policy, police procedure, and social defense. Students also learn about community development. Students learn to analyze data, statistics, and empirical evidence. Students work closely with faculty to make sure that they understand key concepts in the field. Students are also encouraged to work in the community. This opportunity serves as an experiential education as well as an internship opportunity that allows students to understand the criminal justice field from the inside. This allows them to understand the workings of the clinical criminal justice worker, and it also gives them the opportunity to understand the physical real world effects of policy and law. Students who complete this program go onto work at the state and federal government levels, and also write policy and continue academic research. Some students go on to pursue PhD Degrees in the field.

This department is known for its understanding of the crossroads of theory and practice. Students who work in this department at the undergraduate and graduate level get a full understanding of the criminal justice field from a number of different perspectives. They work closely with faculty advisors to go over research, data, and perspectives and draw educated decision about key issues. The school offers a number of different courses and program options for its undergraduate and graduate students.

Master of Science in Criminal Justice:

Students begin with a core education. They learn about policy and law. They also learn about key issues facing urban communities today. Students are encouraged also to participate in internships in which they get to work with law enforcement officials and community workers who understand the real world context of criminal justice. Students are prepared for their professions, which may be as government workers or in the private sector. Many students who complete this program go on to pursue a PhD degree in a similar field.
