Idaho State University Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences:
This department is known throughout the country for its hands-on training and dedication to community service. The school offers a wide array of degrees and areas of concentration for today's aspiring health and nutrition professionals. The school offers a wide and diverse number of internship opportunities for students who would like to make smooth transitions into the professional world. The school employs faculty members who are experienced professionals and scholars. The faculty members work closely with students to help them to complete their programs and begin their careers. Students are also granted access to a number of cutting-edge research methods, new technologies, and up-to-date software programs.
Master of Public Health:
This is a graduate degree for students who are interested in studying public health policy in a number of different communities and environments. The program begins with students receiving a core education in public health issues and concepts. Students learn about policy, health risks, methods of prevention, and health education. Students choose individual areas of concentration, which will develop their future paths of study. Students then take a number of electives. Students participate and engage in lectures, discussions, and learning groups. Students will perform internships and clinical research. They work with a number of different community groups and organizations so that students can get the most out of their education while also giving back to the community. Students work closely with faculty members to complete independent research projects, papers, and to work out realistic career goals. Students may complete master's thesis papers. Students who complete this program become administrators, leaders, and promoters in a number of public health contexts in Idaho, around the country, and all around the world. Students may also apply to PhD degree programs, which allow them to continue their research at a more advanced level.
Master of Health Education:
This program is for students who are interested in developing an advanced understanding of public health promotion and education. Students will choose individual areas of interest. Students then take core classes in public health and education methods and procedures. Students participate in a number of different lectures, discussions, and learning groups that allow them to discuss and explore key issues with their peers. Students will also engage in a number of community internship experiences. They may teach at schools or give health presentations and advise local health policies and decisions. Students will also work closely with faculty members to complete individual research projects and write papers. Students are tested often to demonstrate advanced understanding of key health education concepts. Students may be asked to complete master's thesis papers. Students who complete this program are qualified to teach health in public schools, educate staff, serve as health education administrators, or pursue PhD degrees in health education.
