Iowa State University's Graduate Engineering Programs

ISU was established in 1858 and adopted its current name in 1959. The university is ranked among the top 50 public universities in the country by the US News and World Report. 100 masters programs are offered here and 19% of enrolled students take advantage of these degrees. More than 26,000 students were enrolled in the 2007-2008 academic school year.

Master in Chemical and Biological Engineering

Graduate students work closely with faculty to accomplish breakthroughs in engineering. You can specialize in biobased products, biochemical engineering, catalysis and reaction engineering and other areas. The department is home to a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center.

Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Cutting-edge research is available to students in this program. The purpose is to provide each individual with an outstanding education and an opportunity to pursue a rewarding career following graduation. You can specialize in several different categories, including bioengineering, systems and controls, software systems, and other areas.

Masters in Materials Science and Engineering

Three world-class research facilities offered for the use of student are the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation, and the Microelectronics Research Center. With this degree, you can specialize in materials informatics, materials for renewable energy, computational materials science and other areas.

The University of Iowa's Graduate Engineering Programs

This public research university was established in 1847. The campus extends over about 1,700 acres. 22% of the 29,000 enrolled students are graduate students. 11 colleges and schools make up the university's educational options. The College of Engineering is where you can find graduate degrees in engineering.

Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering

The goal of this program is to more deeply educate students about biomedical engineering well beyond what they learned at the undergraduate level. Physiology and engineering sciences come together in this degree, designed to be completed in two years of full-time study past the undergraduate level. Thesis and non-thesis options are available.

Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and Science

A thesis option with 24 credit hours plus six credit hours of thesis research is one choice. The non-thesis option is available as well, and requires 30 credits of coursework only. Core classes include Environmental Chemistry, Biological Treatment Processes, and Air Pollution & Control Technology.

PhD in Environmental Engineering and Science

72 credit hours past the undergraduate level will accomplish a PhD degree. Up to 24 semester hours will go toward your thesis research. A minimum of one year of on-campus residency is compulsory for you to earn your PhD. Classes include Foundations in Bioremediation, Solid and Hazardous Waste, and Groundwater.
