  1. Masters in Criminal Justice (MSCJ): This is often the degree of choice for law enforcement professionals who want to move into the leadership ranks. The University of Cincinnati has an online MSCJ program as well as its traditional classroom option.
  2. Masters in Criminology: This academic discipline focuses on the link between criminology research and theory and criminal justice practice as exercised in law enforcement and courtrooms. Florida State University also offers this program in a dual degree format with Public Administration.
  3. Masters in Forensic Science: Any forensics degree today is a multidisciplinary course of study. The University of California at Davis notes in their program description that, "Advances in molecular biology, microanalytic techniques and microscopy have created new challenges and opportunities in the Forensic Sciences and have increased the demand for well-trained professionals..."
  4. Master of Laws (LLM): This is typically a one-year program that draws its title from the Latin Legum Magister or Master of Laws. It is in many ways a preparatory course of study for students who end up in law school studying for the Juris Doctor.
  5. Masters in Cybersecurity: The Polytechnic Institute of New York University offers this program at two of its campuses and online. Career opportunities in the field are expanding exponentially as computer hackers have moved into corporate information theft on a global basis.
  6. Masters in Economic Crime Management: This degree is offered on campus and online by Utica College for students who are interested in a corporate career helping to manage internal financial security.
  7. Masters in Homeland Security: The program at San Diego State University describes this course of study as designed to manage "real world challenges associated with man-made and natural emergencies and critical incidents on the local, national, and global levels."
  8. Masters in Paralegal Studies: Most paralegals today have gotten into the field with an associates or bachelors degree. However today George Washington University and a few other schools have developed a Masters in Paralegal Studies that allows graduates to move into an instrumental role in a corporate law environment as well as firms that are generalist in nature.
  9. Master of Justice Management: Universities have begun to recognize the need for court management professionals and the University of Nevada at Reno is one of them. Their masters program is taught in conjunction with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Justices and the National Judicial Council.
  10. Masters in Forensic Psychology: According to the American Board of Forensic Psychology this field is dedicated to applying the science and profession of psychology to law enforcement and legal issues. The University of Denver offers a program in the field.
  11. Masters in Forensic Computing: This degree provides the graduate with the skills to detect and analyze "electronic crime." The John Jay College of Criminal Justice offers this program to students who are interested in working with law enforcement agencies such as the FBI that track the movement of money through computerized accounts.
  12. Masters in International Crime and Justice: A few criminal justice programs offer this option as an academic track that focuses on global criminal justice issues, which can involve cash, contraband, or a range of multinational criminal activities.
  13. Masters in Public Administration (MPA) - Court Administration: This is another degree focusing on court management services offered by the City University of New York through its John Jay School of Criminal Justice. The court management profession has moved beyond the role of senior court clerk into a full time administrative role managing every operational function related to courtroom activity.
  14. Masters in Legal Administration: Some law firms today are seeking management personnel with graduate credentials. Students who are interested in this type of supervisorial work can pursue the degree opportunity offered by the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver among other schools.

Masters in Nursing (MSN) - Forensic Nursing: The field of legal nurse consulting has grown to the point that long established medical programs such as the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing offer it as an academic track. Many nurse legal consultants are self employed, hiring out on a case-by-case basis.
  16. Masters in Criminal Justice Management: Law enforcement personnel and professionals in juvenile justice and probation can pursue this degree through the online program at San Houston State University. For working professionals it's a flexible academic option.

Masters in Cybersecurity Policy: Mid career professionals who have watched the security problems with data theft emerge as a major business issue can pursue this degree and execute a well chosen shift in professional direction. This will only continue to grow as a management challenge. The University of Maryland University College offers this degree as a Masters in Science or as a dual degree option with their MBA program.
  18. MBA - Criminal Justice: Another option for law enforcement management personnel seeking further academic credentials is this degree program, offered as an online option by St. Leo University. Police chiefs or sheriffs in major urban centers manage big budgets, capital expenditures and share a lot of other functions with business management professionals.
  19. MBA - Legal Studies: This academic track in an MBA program takes the student into the area of public policy, business-government interface, regulatory affairs and to a degree, business ethics. The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business offers this program to its MBA students as one of fourteen areas of focus.
  20. Masters in Justice Law & Society: This is a public policy degree offered under this title and others for students who wish to pursue careers with policy making agencies in the legal field. The American University School of Public Affairs makes this degree available as a standalone masters program or as a dual degree choice offered in conjunction with their law school.
