University of Maine College of Education and Human Development
The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Maine combines research based education as well as real world application to prepare teachers and counselors for the challenge of meeting the needs of a diverse population.
Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling
The focus of the M.Ed in Mental Health Counseling is to assist students in obtaining a license as a clinical professional counselor (LCPC). This is a 60 hour program that includes a 900 hour clinical internship. At graduation, students will be eligible to take the National Counselor Examination for their LCPC license and begin careers in private practice, schools, and mental health facilities.
Doctorate in Counselor Education
This doctoral program is for professionals seeking to advance or move into research careers in counseling and counselor education. The program combines research methodologies, a theoretical core in human development, and mentorship with experts in the field to provide students with the education and support they need to achieve their professional and educational goals.

University of Southern Maine College of Education and Human Development
The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine offers 9 programs with over 30 bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree options that meet the standards set by the State of Maine and the school’s accreditation bodies. Over 700 students are taught by esteemed faculty members who bring real world experience to the classroom to help prepare students to become effective leaders in their careers.
Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling
Students of this graduate program are provided with both academic and field based learning in community agencies to prepare them for working with individuals with disabilities in a wide variety of settings. Upon graduation, students will be able to take the national exam for licensure and then move into careers at vocational rehab facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, veteran administrations, and private industry among other places.
