Maine Graduate Finance Schools with Master’s and PhD Degree Programs
University of Maine’s Graduate Finance Program
UMaine has come a long way since it was first established in 1862 as Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts. It gained university status and 1897 and has been growing ever since. In the 2007-2008 school year, nearly 12,000 students were enrolled. 21% of those enrolled this year are studying to complete a graduate program. Six divisions of schools and colleges make up the university’s layout. The College of Business, Public Policy and Health is where you can earn a finance master’s degree.
Master of Business Administration, Finance Track
The purpose of taking this track within the MBA program is to learn about finances in-depth as preparation for careers in banking, investing and financial assisting. Two courses are required, namely Management of Financial Institutions and Investment Management. There are several electives to choose from as well, including International Corporate Finance, Financial Statement Analysis and Futures & Options.

Thomas College’s Graduate Finance Program
In 1894, Thomas College was founded as a co-educational institution with a dedication to career-oriented training. Specialized areas of the college include education, business, and technology. Both undergraduate and graduate degree programs are available. About 1,000 students are enrolled and 15% of these are graduate students.
Master of Business Administration in Finance
This program is coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree, totally five years of study altogether. Advancing to the MBA level will equip you with invaluable learning experiences that you can take with you once you graduate and begin seeking a career. Undergraduate courses include Personal Financial Planning, Finance Proficiency Exam and International Trade & Investment. Once you reach the graduate level, your courses will include Economic Systems, Financial Management and Operations Research Techniques.

University of Southern Maine’s Graduate Finance Program
USM was established in 1878 and is both the oldest and largest campus belonging to the University of Maine System. The Princeton Review has honored USM for the past five years in a row by naming it the Best Northeastern College. The university is divided into eight academic schools and colleges for students to earn their degrees. Over 10,000 students are enrolled each year and nearly a quarter of attending students are pursuing graduate degrees.
Master of Business Administration, Finance Concentration
This is an optional concentration that is offered alongside the Taxation concentration. Nine credit hours replace the MBA electives that are traditionally required, so it takes no extra credit hours to earn a specialized degree. Some courses you can expect to take include Special Topics in Finance, Internship Study in Finance, Financial Modeling and International Finance.
