Boston College Graduate School of Social Work Degree Programs

Boston College is proud of their ranking as the 14th best social work graduate program in the United States in the 2008 rankings conducted by US News and World Reports, which including surveying 278 schools and institutions. The School is widely known for its International MSW Global Practice Concentration which sends students abroad for fieldwork in refugee camps and other social service initiatives around the world.

Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (PhD in Social Work)

Philosophies of discrimination are a focus in a PhD in Social Work. Students can expect to be exposed to different types of discrimination within their own societies. Research and solutions to the problems within their own communities are a focal points addressed in social work courses. Students of social work are prepared for the different socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic groups they could work with as a professional. Beliefs, customs, and topics of these groups will be viewed in great detail for the best understanding possible. Field work in more than one type will also be required of the graduates.

US News and World Report ranked 278 graduate social work schools in 2008. Boston University School of Social Work ranked the 22nd best school in the nation in that ranking. The School provides flexible scheduling and degree program options including weekend programs off campus and dual degrees.

Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (PhD in Social Work)

Students hoping to graduate with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work will apply educational and societal reforms to their professional practices as social workers. Critiques of social work based literature will educate students on the concepts that influence change in society. Students will read and analyze writings, documents, and studies about client behaviors popular within the field. Critiques of their own practices during field work and observations are also requirements of a PhD in Social Work.
