Masters in Education Schools

The Master's in Education is one of the graduate programs that has retained a lot of the traditional trappings that graduate degrees once maintained as a stepping stone to the doctoral level. The options for career tracks in the MEd have expanded dramatically as the degree has become a terminal option and an important addition to the resume for education careerists. Educators who wish to work in instructional development, as a school administrator or principal, or in the field of curriculum and instruction generally need to complete a MEd or as offered in some schools, the MS in Education or the MA in Education. Despite the development of the Master of Arts in Teaching, the MEd remains an important graduate program that offers an altogether different perspective on elementary and secondary education than does the teaching degree.

  • Argosy University offers several Master of Arts in Education degrees that can lead to teacher credentialing on its campuses in Illinois, Texas, Arizona, Minnesota and Utah. There are also programs on those campuses for the MAEd in Educational Administration which can lead to licensure as a school principal, and the MAEd in School Counseling which can also qualify graduates for state licensure. Other MAEd options include Community College Executive Leadership, Instructional Leadership, Higher and Postsecondary Education, and School Psychology.
  • American Intercontinental University has a Master of Education program with four career track options. The MEd in Curriculum & Instruction incorporates teaching techniques and instructional planning into a single curriculum. The MEd in Instructional Technology provides training in the design and use of classroom technology. The MEd in Educational Assessment & Evaluation is a degree focused on a critical area in this age of student testing and school rankings being critical to funding levels. And the MEd in Leadership of Educational Organizations is a degree for teachers or others who wish to move into school administration.
  • Graceland University offers the Master of Education degrees online and on campus. In both instances the programs have been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The MEd in Differentiated Instruction is an innovative program that provides teachers with advanced training for managing a diverse classroom. The MEd in Management in the Inclusive Classroom is another perspective on differentiated education and how to manage it. There are also MEd degrees in Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, and Technology Integration.
  • Ashford University has a comprehensive Master of Arts in Education program with a range of specializations for people who wish to make a career in a position of leadership within the education system. Among the classroom oriented options are the MAEd in Special Education, in Early Childhood Education, in Reading Literacy, and in Distance Learning.
