Masters in Homeland Security Salaries

Masters in Homeland Security Salaries

Many of the job opportunities in homeland security are in the public sector, and many of those are with one federal agency or another that is under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security. It's difficult to extract salaries associated with federal jobs because they are quoted as a federal pay grade - a letter and two digits - rather than as a dollar figure. We have assembled a selection of homeland security jobs for which we could obtain a reliable pay range and a median dollar figure that potential homeland security professionals can use as a starting point. These salaries are based on figures drawn from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics or if no data could be found there, from Payscale.com.

1. IT Security Specialist could be a highly specialized position in the homeland security sector because of the high levels of security clearance required and the sophisticated programs used for sensitive data. The salary figures available to us don't reflect that degree of specialization, but they provide an idea of the pay rates for a non-management position in the field. According to Payscale.com the total pay package for this position in and out of the public sector is $49,974 - $87.008. Salary range - not total pay package - in the IT Services field is $52,244 - $82,875. In the field of aerospace and defense the range is $54.034 - $85,536.

2. Security Engineer is a technical position that pays well, according to Payscale.com. The range for total pay package for the position is $62,952 - $99,270. The salary range in the aerospace and defense sector, which may well include homeland security, is $67,214 - $102,690. In the information technology consulting field the range is $64,869 - $98,686.

3. Telecommunications Manager within the homeland security complex could be a highly security-conscious position or it could be more like a position in the corporate environment which requires attention to technology more than attention to information security. According to Payscale.com the total pay package range for this position is $59,785 - $96,713. In the wireless technology industry the pay scale is $63,487 - $95,260. In the Information Technology Services sector the pay range is $60,297 - $92,963.

4. Business Continuity Manager at the entry level, or mid-management level has a total pay package range of $61,630 - $105,866. The position of Senior Business Continuity Manager has a range of $66,129 - $130,1180. Presumably larger corporations would be the organizations with a management hierarchy in this field. For the senior position, in the financial services industry, the salary range exclusive of benefits is $69,552 - $108,181. In the banking sector the salary range is $65,292 - $102,233.

5. Security Public Policy Analyst is defined as a public policy analyst in the professions handbooks, so our salary figures do not factor in the security element - which may or may not mean an increased salary range. For a Senior Policy Analyst the range for the total pay package is $57,523 - $96,735. In the national defense sector that figure is $56,408 - $89,115; that should be applicable to work in the homeland security field. For management consulting the salary range is $60,155 - $92,536.
