This area of concentration will provide the student with training necessary for personnel management in the public sector, which is easily applicable to the corporate environment today.

Society for Human Resource Management offers a wealth of information on the various areas for HR management specialization: benefits, consulting, organizational development, technology, diversity, compensation, employee relations, and staffing management. There are several publications, a research library, education resources, and a job bank.
Academy of Human Resource Development was founded in 1993 to contribute to research and dissemination of research information on human resource development. The Academy sponsors three conferences per year, in the Americas, in Europe, and in Asia. There are also four journals put out by the Academy and offers scholarly information through webcasts.
American Society for Training and Development has over 130 chapters in the United States and an additional thirty affiliated organizations worldwide. It is the largest organization in the world for professionals in the workplace learning and performance field. Many people in this field work in HR departments within a corporate structure, but many more are employed in consulting firms that specialize in organizational development.
International Public Management Association for Human Resources represents human resource professionals at the federal, state, and local government level. The organization is focused in public sector personnel practices, which differ significantly from the business environment. There is an active professional development component offering seminars, classes and publications.
National Human Resources Association was established in 1951 as the first national organization for human resource professionals. Today the Association offers networking and professional education for its members, with several useful tools for business connections. Human Resources Accreditation
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the organization for accreditation of business schools, which at many universities offer the Master of Human Resources degree or offer HR as a MBA specialization option. AACSB also accredits degree programs in management.
Human Resources Certification Institute has certified over 108,000 professionals in the field. Their exam based credentialing process is available for three classifications: the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and the Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).
National Public Employer Labor Relations Association has a labor relations academy program for professionals in the field. Completion of the program leads to recognition as a Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP). It is a three course program that requires a professional paper for conclusion.
Human Resources Policy Association is an organization for human resources management officials. The Association offers its own educational program in labor relations that leads to a Labor Relations Professional Certification. This program focuses on grievance procedures and management of union contracts and negotiations.
WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals is an organization that offers certification in several human resources fields. There is an education program followed by an exam that can lead to any one of the following: Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Benefits Professional, Global Remuneration Professional, Certified Sales Compensation Professional, and Certified Executive Compensation Professional.
