Masters in Management Information Systems (MIS)

In pursuit of a Masters in Management Information Systems (MIS), students will take classes in a variety of technological and business management topics. The focus of their studies is being able to manage resources effectively in information technology departments of many sizes. On the technical side of the spectrum, classes usually revolve around project management, information security, software engineering, and e-commerce development. On the business side of spectrum, classes usually revolve around statistics, financial statements, business processes, management, finances, and economics. Somewhere in the mix are classes on IT strategy, law, and ethics. Many schools provide a blend of real world experience along with theoretical class work.

Finding the time to get an advanced degree is often difficult for many people. Time is the largest obstacle. Getting a degree online allows many people to overcome this obstacle easily. Students can do their class work around their professional and personal life schedules. Management Information Systems (MIS) Masters Programs offer the same academic credentials to their students as those offered to students of traditional university classes. Online classes are usually easier on a student's personal life as well financial life.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, they expect the number of jobs in this area to grow up to 20% over the next 10 years. Graduates in this area can select from a wide variety of jobs in many industries. Graduates can go to work for IT companies that provide consultation and services to external operations. They can also go to work for large corporations and work in their IT departments. Some go on to become business analysts and project managers. For those that just graduate, they can expect salaries that start around $60,000. In some more profitable companies, bonuses and profit sharing can add up to $10,000 extra per year.
