Masters in Mathematics Education

Masters in Mathematics Education

Students that are going after a Masters in Mathematics Education take classes that combine knowledge of teaching theory along with how to teach mathematics. Many teachers begin work as a classroom teacher. However, in order to advance and maintain stable employment, their employers require them to obtain a masters degree. Students take a variety of mathematical courses including algebra, calculus, and geometry. In conjunction, they also take classes designed to enhance their teaching ability such as technology, counseling, curriculum, and instruction.

A lot of potential students want to be able to obtain a masters degree. Their everyday lives hold them back from taking this large step however. These potential students are under the false notion that they would have to go to classes on a traditional college campus. For individuals that have busy professional and personal lives, striking a balance can be hard. That is one reason why getting your degree online is so attractive to many people. Mathematics Education Master’s Programs are available through a number of online universities. Students that graduate with a degree from an online university have the same opportunities as those students that graduated from traditional universities.

Teachers in the area of mathematics and science are often in low numbers. While teachers and other areas face layoffs, mathematics teachers often obtain and hold teaching positions. This will continue into the future according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most graduates go on to teach at the middle school or high school levels. Since the need for mathematics teachers is higher than other specialties, graduates with this degree often get higher salaries than other teachers do. A typical mathematics teacher at the high school level can expect to make $40,000 a year or more in many areas. In certain geographical areas, that number could be higher.
