Masters in Physical Therapy

Students interested in helping others recover from injuries may wish to consider signing up for a Masters in Physical Therapy program. This usually involves a more detailed extension of previous studies obtained at the undergraduate level, which will include an emphasis on anatomy, rehabilitation, and the psychology behind healing. To find employment in this field, it’s now widely required to have education at least at this Master’s level, and combine any classroom work with internships in a clinic or hospital to learn the medical skills that are necessary to succeed and help understand the intricacies of various injuries.

With a wide range of course options now available through online degree programs, many students find that working one of these Physical Therapy Master’s Programs into potentially busy schedules is now easier than ever. As a result, there are more and more well established universities that offer an online component at the very least to their studies. This can then be supplemented with in person internships or other field studies in therapy clinics that give a well rounded education. When researching the different online programs, it’s a good idea to compare not only the price but also the academic program and reputation.

Although many graduates of this type of program will go on to pursue Doctorates, it’s also possible to find employment at this level. The salary and job prospects, however, will increase with a higher level of education. The average salaries for physical therapists will vary depending on all of these factors, but the average annual salary that was reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics was approximately $75,000 in 2008. Some other job titles that could be pursued by graduates in this field could possibly include physical scientists, respiratory therapy technicians, or physical therapy assistants.
