Masters in Project Management Salaries

Masters in Project Management Salaries

The salary ranges for this job title vary from industry to industry. There are project managers in information technology, in engineering, construction, architecture, and in various business functions and sectors. A project management expert for a multinational corporation might specialize in international mergers with newly acquired foreign companies, or perhaps in just merging the management database from that acquired business into the corporate information center. A project manager working with a business consulting firm might be called on to develop and install an intranet or create a new database from several old ones on a new platform. The project manager on a new highway project provides oversight for contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, personnel managers and above all, the project budget. Our brief collection of salaries is a cross section of project management career possibilities at several levels of seniority.

1. Construction Project Managers: This profession is included in data developed by the U.S. Department of Labor in the annual Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the agency. Accordingly there is salary data available from the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics. The median salary for this position on a national scale is $82,330. For nonresidential construction the median salary is $92,360; for building equipment contractors who put project managers on the job the median salary is $99,950.

2. Clinical Research Project Manager: Depending on the research project this job title may or may not require a scientific background. For pharmaceutical research, much of the data collection must meet regulatory guidelines which require careful oversight rather than medical or scientific knowledge about the data itself. According to Salary.com the median salary for a clinical research project manager in the U.S. is $94,601.

3. Systems Design Project Manager: This job can exist in several business environments and can be an in-house position or a consulting position. Because systems design and implementation is often a highly skilled specialization, the Department of Labor classifies it as primarily a consulting position and primarily a senior role. The median salary for this profession is $113,720.

4. Technical Project Manager can be a job title for several levels of technical expertise and management seniority. It is considered a mid-level management position in many large IT environments which is reflected in the pay ranges. According to Payscale.com in aerospace and defense the salary range for this profession is $70,278 - $105,096, with a median salary of about $88,000. In financial services, the pay range is $67,497 - $100,486 for an average salary of $83,400.

5. Web Development Project Manager: Many of the job listings in this field still require a bachelor's degree, but those that fall to someone who has completed a relevant graduate degree the positions of opportunity are more likely to be at a senior level.
