Masters in Project Management Scholarships and Fellowships

Masters in Project Management Scholarships and Fellowships

Project management degrees are usually an offshoot of an information technology program, a graduate business program, or in some cases an engineering program. There are many scholarship programs for graduate work in these academic fields, and a student working towards a degree that has an academic specialization in program management would certainly qualify for consideration. Business and IT programs at many universities have endowed scholarships dedicated to scholars working in these areas. There are also national scholarships put forward by national associations of business, IT and engineering professionals, as well as student financial awards from corporate scholarship programs. Many universities also have scholarships for graduate study that have been endowed by alumni of the schools who earned degrees in one of the relevant academic areas.

1. Project Management Institute operates an Educational Foundation that administers well over thirty endowed scholarship programs for undergraduate and graduate students who are working towards a degree in project management or a related field. Some of the scholarships have been instituted by local chapters of the PMI and are awarded through the local chapter organizations, although applicants need not necessarily be residents of the area. Many have been endowed by members or former members of the Institute, or by families of successful career project managers who have created an educational trust in memoriam.

2. Institute of Industrial Engineering supports or administers several scholarship programs that have been endowed by various sources for both undergraduate and graduate students. Graduate programs in industrial engineering often have concentration options for areas such as project management. At many universities there is a substantial crossover today between industrial engineering and systems engineering, so a degree in project management within one of these programs might be heavily focused on IT project management.

3. Society of Manufacturing Engineers has an impressive list of scholarship programs for undergraduate and graduate students who are working towards a degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering or a related field. The organization has an Education Foundation that offers scholarships to high school graduates as well who have enrolled in an appropriate engineering program. Some of these scholarship programs are for designated schools, or for students enrolled in any program within a particular state.

4. AFCEA Educational Foundation offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students working towards degrees in technology and other defense or intelligence related fields relevant to the organization: the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. There are one hundred forty six local chapters of this group, many of which award their own scholarships for local students or local universities. There are programs for both undergraduate and graduate students; there is no mandatory connection with military service, but rather an interest in steering technology students towards careers in the intelligence field.

5. Columbia University School of Business offers dozens of endowed scholarships in addition to the grants provided by the university itself to incoming students who have demonstrated merit and need. The endowed scholarships are in some cases designated for minority students, for students from a particular geographic area, or for students engaged in a particular field of study within the Columbia MBA program. There are areas of operations, risk management and management available as elective options that can be assembled into a project management specialization.
