In the ranking of Education Graduate Schools by U.S. News and World Report 2010, UM's Phyllis J. Washington College of Education includes academic departments for Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Leadership. Each of these departments has Masters and Doctoral degree programs in specific fields of study.

Ed.D. (Education Doctorate) in Curriculum and Instruction

The Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction prepares students for Curriculum Specialist positions, academic research, and professorships at institutions of higher learning. Qualified graduate students follow a program of 90 credits with a doctoral dissertation.

Master of Education in Educational Leadership

This degree program prepares students for administrative work, a Class 3 Montana Administrative License and a K-12 Principal Endorsement. Graduate students will complete coursework including 36 credits and a comprehensive exam (worth one credit) that includes a culminating portfolio and culminating presentation.

The Montana State University Department of Education has three departments that offer Master and Doctoral degrees: Adult and Higher Learning, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Leadership.

Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration

Students participating in this degree program complete a 60 credit course of study (after achieving a Master's degree) toward work administrating a college or university.

Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction

The format of the curriculum and instruction master program allows students to choose from three specialty options: Professional Educator option, Educational researcher option, and the Technology Education option. These options provide a tailoring of the program to the students' particular needs.
