Question:

What is Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

Best Answer:

This is a long-established specialization in the field that, as the name suggests, focuses on the psychology of the workplace and of organizations in general.  Most practitioners in this field hold a PhD.  An I/O psychologist consulting with a business might research and recommend policy changes in hiring practices, training programs, and feedback systems in order to improve both overall efficiency and morale.  This specialization has its roots in social psychology, but provides research and analytical skills to the workplace and to specific organizations, private and public, rather than society as a whole.
