South Dakota Graduate Engineering Schools with Master's & PhD Degree Programs

South Dakota State University Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Electricity, engineering, and the computer sciences are all parts of the curriculum that is covered within South Dakota State's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. As part of a larger university, students are treated to world class research facilities with which to carry out their experiments and hypotheses. There are several different degree options to choose from at the graduate level.

Master's of Science in Engineering

Those students who have already completed basic coursework in the field of systems engineering or information technology at an undergraduate level will then want to continue their work with the Master's of Science in Computer Engineering. Some of the basic courses that could be included in this include but are not limited to systems analysis, electrical engineering, and a variety of different elective courses that will help support this core of knowledge.

PhD in Electrical Systems Engineering

Some students will opt for a more advanced degree, such as this PhD program that takes the basics of the Master's program a step further. That could include the career track towards teaching or being involved in a research career.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

Students who attend this highly regarded scientific institution may be in a remote location but then reap the benefits of a world class faculty and staff, and a huge array of different programs. This has led them to receive a high ranking from the US News and World Report, and they consistently are on the top list of science schools in the Western region of the country. Some of the fields of study include Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering, to begin with.

Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering

Students with a background or interest in physics may be interested in channeling this into the further study of Electrical Engineering, which looks at electrical systems in a holistic manner. That includes figuring out how to best conserve electricity, and plan for community use. A number of required core classes in systems analysis are then combined with a thesis or research project to round out the program.

Master's of Science in Atmospheric Sciences

The unique landscape of South Dakota and the Badlands helps contribute to the research capabilities that students have here to study the atmosphere and how natural resources contribute to it. With a combination of field work, research, and seminar courses, those pursuing a Master's degree may take a number of classes as part of their studies that could include Earth System Sciences, Meteorology, and Solar Radiation. These are but a few of the various options that are included in this type of curriculum, with a research component being a major part of it.
