An online masters in finance program is usually going to emanate from the university’s business school. With traditional universities and professional colleges the graduate program in finance is part of the business education program. Many traditional universities are offering some version of the MBA degree as an online option today; although most are Executive MBA programs that do not include the choice of an area of specialization. The schools we have listed here all have a full fledged school of business and all offer finance as one of several choices for an area of concentration within the MBA program.

1. Grand Canyon University offers the MBA in Finance on its Phoenix campus and as an online degree. The Ken Blanchard College of Business has had some input on program design from its famous namesake, but the MBA program remains a rigorous course of study particularly in the area of finance. Once the student has covered the basics in accounting and finance principles, the curriculum moves into more complex areas including Quantitative Methods and Managerial Finance. As with any MBA program today the areas of quantitative analysis and financial strategy require substantial study of the IT functions underlying business and market practices today.

2. Strayer University has the MBA in Finance offered as one of thirteen areas of concentration for its online graduate degree in business. The University has recently redesigned the MBA curriculum to align it with the rapidly changing business environment driven by corporate globalization. International business practices and the vagaries of international business finance are now an important part of the MBA in Finance. There are also courses on the design of financial instruments such as those traded today by the top investment firms, as well as courses on the quantitative and analytic skills that today’s MBA graduates must master through the study of IT and software applications that drive decision making in the financial sector.

3. Bellevue University offers the online MBA with a flexible curriculum. It can be completed in eighteen months by a student who is working full time. Applicants who do not have a degree with business background take a set of foundation courses, followed by the core courses for the degree and finally by nine credit hours for the area of concentration. A student who has an undergraduate degree in business or math or a related field may elect to take the core courses, the courses for the finance specialization and courses for an additional area of concentration. The fifteen options include Information Security and Healthcare Management, both good fits with Finance.

4. Walden University has an online MBA program with thirteen majors, or areas of specialization. Walden students can opt for a MBA in Corporate Finance or another option closely related to business financial analytics, the MBA in Risk Management. Estimated time for completion is twenty two months; courses are delivered in sequential fashion as eight week programs within a sixteen week semester. The MBA in Corporate Finance includes advanced finance classes in the second half of the curriculum including Applications in Corporate Finance, which will test the student’s grasp of software programs and languages. There is a four credit capstone project on finance management.

5. Keller Graduate School of Management has two options for a graduate degree in finance. The MBA with an emphasis in Finance includes electives such as Real Estate Finance, Project Cost and Schedule Control, Securities Analysis and International Finance. There are several career tracks that a student can shape based on the finance electives alone. There is also a Master of Accounting & Financial Management degree with three track options: Certified Public Accountant emphasis, Certified Fraud Examiner emphasis, or Chartered Financial Analyst emphasis.
