Master of Accountancy:
This program is designed for students who want to go into the accounting profession. This program prepares students to take the CPA exam. CPA stands for Certified Public Accounting. Students begin by learning the basics of a core business education. This will be an advanced extension of what was learned as an undergraduate business major. Students concentrate on business law, business ethics, finance, and auditing. Students also work closely with faculty to prepare for the profession. The school brings visiting representatives from a number of different firm and corporations to visit with and speak to students in the program, Students who complete this program are often matched with excellent positions in the field. It should be noted that each state has specific course requirements that are necessary for students to take the Certified Public Accountant exam. Students should research the requirements for the states in which they plan on taking the exam. When students prepare for their professions they may often times have the opportunity to perform internships. This means that students will have the opportunity to get experience on the field. Students appreciate this option because it not only allows them to get a foot in the door, but it also prepares them for real world professional challenges and issues. Students have the opportunity to apply the lessons learned in class to the real world. Faculty work closely with students to help them to develop as professionals. Students will tackle real world challenges and issues related to the public accountant. Although this school does not offer PhD degrees in accounting, this program prepares students who would like to pursue PhD degrees in other programs. A PhD allows students to become scholars in the field and prepares them to teach at the graduate level. Students in the Master of Accountancy program have a wide range of options when it comes to careers. They may work for small companies or large corporations. They may also work for non-profit organizations or for government organizations. Students with master degrees in accountancy may also teach at the community college associate level.
