Norfolk State University Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work
Students in the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work are committed to community wellness through learning strategies for research, leadership, and education. The program offers a Master of Social Work and a PhD of Social Work and focuses on diversity, dignity, social justice, a respect for human rights, and social responsibility, with an emphasis in African-American and minority issues.

Ph.D. in Social Work

Graduates of this program may continue in advanced clinical practice or organizational leadership but are also prepared for research impacting the future of the social work field, teaching positions at institutes of higher learning, and analytical direction of policy. The program places an emphasis on working with diverse populations, especially with African-Americans.

Master of Social Work

Graduates of this program are ready for more advanced and specialized in social welfare, including positions of leadership in social work organizations such as administration and policy planning. There are two possible concentrations: Clinical and Community Practice.

Radford University School of Social Work
RU is a public university located in Radford, Virginia between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. Though the program is in a rural area, the School of Social Work values all kinds of diversity and provides a variety of experiences for its students.

Master in Social Work

Graduate students in social work will complete foundation courses, advancing their knowledge base and skills generally and then enter a concentration year. The concentration year places emphasis on research, evaluation, and application of knowledge. The RU School of Social Work focuses on a family practice setting.
