West Virginia University's Graduate Public Health Programs

Master of Public Health
Graduate students pursuing a Master of Public Health can specialize in a number of different areas, which include environmental health, epidemiology and biostatistics, health policy and administration, social and behavioral contexts of public health, and a generalist degree. The program can be completed on-campus or through a combination of on-campus and distance learning. An MD/MPH joint program is also offered. Different concepts taught through the coursework in the Master's program include methods to monitor population health, health needs of humans, and the promotion of health through treatment and prevention.
Ph.D. in Public Health Sciences
Graduate students can also pursue a Ph.D. in Public Health Sciences with either a concentration in the Social and Behavioral Sciences or Population Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The common core curriculum includes public health research methods, biostatistics, and epidemiology. Additional required coursework will be specific to the student's area of concentration. Specialization in the Social and Behavioral Sciences will include courses such as public health research methods and assessment of public health needs. The Population Epidemiology and Biostatistics concentration will include coursework in chronic disease epidemiology, research design, data analysis, epidemiology, biostatistics, and more. The completion of comprehensive exams and a dissertation will be required to graduate from the program.

Mountain State University's Graduate Public Health Programs
Mountain State University is a private not-for-profit institution located in downtown Beckley, West Virginia. The University provides a non-traditional learning experience which allows for more flexibility, creativity, and independence. The School of Health Sciences offers a graduate program that can be tailored to prepare for careers in the Public Health Sector.
Master of Health Science
Graduate students can design a program of study for the Master of Health Science Program which emphasizes Public Health fields, such as health education or health care administration.
